Niagara County Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigation Bureau |
The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Niagara County Sheriff's Department consists of eight Criminal Investigators, one Chief Investigator and one Deputy.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau conducts investigations into all types of offenses and circumstances, but is primarily involved with felony investigations. In addition to cases reported directly to the Sheriff's Department, the Bureau also assists smaller local Police Agencies in investigations at their request. In 1997, CIB conducted more than six hundred arrests on charges ranging from second degree murder to issuing a bad check. CIB Investigators are on call 24 hours a day to respond to any type of complaint that the Patrol Division requests.
CIB Investigators participate in the major Crime Task Force, the Niagara County Arson Task Force and the Niagara County Child Sex Abuse Strike Force. All investigations of child sexual abuse reported to the Sheriff's Department are assigned through CIB.
