Niagara County Sheriff's Department Underwater Response Team |
The Niagara County Sheriff's Department Underwater Response Team (U.R.T.) is a fully mobile rapid deployment underwater SCUBA response team. The team is made up of sworn officers that are trained and certified as Public Safety SCUBA divers, and are dive rescue trained. The team has the capabilities of, but are not limited to, investigating underwater crime scenes, light salvage operations, underwater surveys, and search and recovery efforts. The team has also worked on sea grant operations with SUNY Brockport to track the impact of zebra muscles in the waters of the Great Lakes. The team is fully geared for cold water and ice diving operations, and is equipped with hand wire and wireless communications, underwater videos, 35mm cameras, underwater vehicles, and much more. The team members are also trained in mix gas diving and rebreathers.
The mission of the Niagara County Sheriff's Department Underwater Response Team is to give the residents and visitors of Niagara County the benefit of having a highly trained and motivated professional Dive Response Team that is ready to respond in a rapid manner to a water emergency both above and below the waters surface.
